Save The Scorpions

I received the following message today, which, I think, speaks for itself. From polls and recent television discussions, it seems that most people in this country would support Mr. Glenister's efforts to stop the disbanding of the Scorpions. If you share that sentiment, here's an opportunity for you to demonstrate your support:

SAVE THE SCORPIONS: WE NEED YOUR HELP AND SUPPORT

How can you help?

1.Send an email with the words: "Scorpions Yes" to scorpions@savare.co.za
or
2.Fax the same to 0880218521388
or
3.Sms the same to 35052.

Our company decided to help Mr Glenister to stop the disbanding of the scorpions. Two of us have been selected to give all our attention to the Hugh Glenister case and work 8 hours a day only doing this. An sms cost R5,00 and we donate 38% of this towards Mr Glenister's legal fees and all the other admin, printing, paper, service provider fees, our salaries etc is paid by our company. Thus costing Mr Glenister nothing. We do it purely because we believe it is our ethical and moral responsibility as a company. Mr Glenister is in the process of opening a bank account where people can donate sums of money to assist him, but for the man in the street a mere sms (once-off, no weekly subscription nonsence) is affordable and for a good cause.

thank you for your support.
Adie

Hi Bob,
Are you saying that you don't know this crowd? I published this in good faith, but if you don't know about them, perhaps we need to delve deeper?

I received the following response to my query from Adriana and Johan:

"Dear Mike

We have been in contact since the beginning with Hugh and he seriously does know about us. He phoned us and we are supporting him by donating the funds of the sms number to assist him with his legal fees. (All sms's received are verifed via itouch - the service provider).

All emails received, are printed and all emails received are personally answered by our staff free of charge.

Thank you for your concern and your support.

Should you have any other queries, you can phone us during office hours 021 852 1396/ 021 852 1388.

Kind Regards
Adriana
Johan "

Thank you for responding - Mike.

Hi Mike,
My concern here is that this issue should not be turned into a money making scheme. We contracted with a SMS service provider to allow concerned citizens to SMS us their support without any premium charge.(average charge 25cents) This number is 31970 and I pay 13 cents for each delivery, the citizen pays their normal rates. So free minutes do apply. Johan did phone me originally and at the time it seemed a good idea, however subsequently we found out that SMS's were costing users R5. I then informed Johan via another web posting that rather tell users to use the lower cost option. I hope this clarifies the issue.
Have a beautiful day

Hi Bob,

Thank you for that clarification.

Do you feel that you'd like to see an edit to this blog, a removal, or a new blog referring to this issue, perhaps containing the comment you wrote?

Oh, and now that we're communicating directly - thank you for what you're doing!! More strength to you!

Mike.

Mike,

I thinks its important for total transparency to leave this as is and for people to realise the different methods.
1. Pay R5, R1.90 goes to the trust fund (how it gets to us yet to be informed by Johan), the balance is split between Johan and his service providers.
2. pay approx 25c this all goes to the service provider.
3. Donate direct to Hamba Phambil Trust. Receive audited accounts on how we spent the money. Any surplus goes to Aids Orphan education.
Name Hamba Phambile Trust
Account Number 223-673-749
Rivonia Branch 00-1255
Bank: Standard Bank
Its important to note that the trust does not levy any administration fees.
Again thanks for the support.

Have a beautiful day
Bob

Thank you, Bob. I wish you success, as, I'm sure, most of the country does.
