Could somebody PLEEZE tell me what "lol" means? I see it thrown about liberally in posts and comments, and those who like using it seem to use it a lot! (I suspect it doesn't mean Lots Of Love)
I realize that I must be showing pathetic ignorance here - but please put me out of my misery so that I can also understand a little more of the important stuff that I read!

LOL : "laughing out loud" or "laugh out loud". See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LOL
Very nice blog by the way ! Loic http://brohardphotography.blogspot.com
Hi Loic,
Thank you very much! (I never thought of checking wikipedia - another lesson learnt!)
And thanks for the compliment. I checked out your site too, and it's pretty spectacular. If you don't mind, I'll add it to my blogroll.
There are a lot of these things floating around. 'lol' seems to be the one that has been around the longest. The one I seem to find the most is 'rofl' (rolling on floor laughing). Who thinks up all these things?
lmao. thats funny. btw, lmao means "laughing my a** off". Im sure I've stumbled a site with loads of internet related terms used in chats
"I realize that I must be showing pathetic ignorance here" Yes, you are :D
Just kidding! The only stupid question is the one that's not asked, and even though that kind of abbreviations are widely known (not as widely as I thought, LOL) nowadays, at their beggining they were created by geeks (like myself - LOL again) in order to keep "outsiders" out of their conversations on chat rooms.
Your blog is very nice (loved the pic of the little girl praying). Keep the good work and keep asking whenever you wonder about something. :)
Anthony, I loved your comment. Well, ask a simple question, feel a little sheepish, then voila! Suddenly I can talk with the IN crowd! (LOL!) (Must work on the accent...)
Next step ... teenage language! I'm on a roll!
LOL! You know I just knew about it a year ago. I feel so ignorant too and there are lots of abbreviations that I still don't really know.
Here's another one for you
LMAO - (Laughing my ass off)
TTYL - Talk to you later.
Cheers!
Thanks, Jade! Between internet language, cell phone SMS language and the fusilage of acronyms we're supposed to keep up with, reading has become a more creative experience than ever!
To all the other bloggers out there who watch way to much South African stand up comedians that would definitely be Laugh Out Loud, but in the normal sms texting language it means Lots of Love, and BRB means Be Right Back. I too had to learn the hard way, by luckily asking a friend only. And LMAO or IMAO is equivilent to saying "Oh my gosh" so learn in baby steps and dont be scared to ask, enjoy the commentry if not the truth.
